If a hearing problem is diagnosed with your child, it is not only the sense of hearing that is affected, the ability to learn a language is also severely reduced without the capacity of hearing, so requesting help is urgently advised.

As parents you will be faced with a series of difficult decisions when it comes to helping your child's entry into normal day-to-day life for instance: at the kindergarten, or at school etc. It has been proved to be particularly important that children with a hearing problem should be supplied with hearing instruments as early as possible, in order to achieve normal learning levels.

Frequently, however, it is not possible to employ conventional hearing instruments with an infant, and even under certain given circumstances surgical procedure may not (or not yet) be feasible or advisable. In the case of children with problems of this sort that might later be helped with surgery, bone conduction instruments are often used. The bone conduction systems currently available do not however, given their size and shape, appear to be suitable for children.

BHM-Tech, an Austrian company, a leader in the field of bone conduction auditory prosthetics, has now decided to resolve this difficult task and is now offering a world-first - a miniature digital bone conduction hearing system suitable for the very young or even the older person.

Contact Mini consists of two interconnected units. The innovative design - an electronic housing and a miniature bone vibrator, which can be worked into a great variety of headgear or hair bands can be extended even into hair decorations, thus offering maximum wearing comfort for your child. Unlike the already familiar hearing systems which may require surgical procedures, with contact mini the sonic signal is generated in a miniature bone vibrator and transferred through direct contact to the skull, from here it moves on as structure-borne sound through the bones of the skull to the inner ear, where it is directly converted into a neural stimulus. Employing these innovative technologies, contact mini can offer a completely new way of providing the necessary auditory care.

Contact-Mini is a digital miniature bone conduction hearing system suitable up to moderate hearing loss from toddlers age onwards. The fitting of the device will be handled electronically with specially developed software. This software - BHMFit2 version 2.0 contains the world's first adaptive algorithm for bone conductive hearing aids, opening up an opportunity for an automatic initial fitting, which allows a maximum of flexibility.
