Types of Hearing Loss

There are three types of hearing loss: conductive, sensorineural and mixed loss.

CONDUCTIVE
This type of hearing loss occurs when either ear canal, eardrum or middle ear are not conducting the sound effectively to inner ear. This can be caused by wax buildup, an infection in the outer or middle ear, a ruptured or scarred eardrum and other middle ear disorders.

SENSORINEURAL
This is one of the most common types of hearing loss and is a result of damage to the inner ear and its connecting nerves. The most common cause of sensorinueral hearing loss is ageing process. Other causes are traumatic, noise induced, infection and some high doses of medication.

MIXED
A mixed hearing loss combines both conductive and sensorineural impairment of sound reception.
